SOS Children's Village - Iloiloll money from the sale of artwork from this site goes to deserving and orphaned children in the Philippines.
The artist, Luzette Villareal, although having lived in Switzerland for more than 25 years, has been a frequent visitor to her home town of Iloilo on the south - eastern Panay Island in Western Visayas, the Philippines.
It was during one of those regular visits that she witnessed first hand the work done to help children in her home town, by the International Organization of SOS Children's Villages.
SOS Children's Villages Philippines is a private, non-denominational welfare organization and part of SOS Kinderdorf an International organization founded in 1949.
They are dedicated to the rights and needs of orphaned, abandoned or neglected children. During the past 30 years they have built and are running 8 villages in the Philippines.
Luzette, although not having been blessed with children of her own has a very close and natural affinity with children and they in turn take to her with remarkable ease.
It therefore came as no great surprise that she would want to support the SOS Children's Village project with proceeds from the sale of her original paintings.
The SOS Children's village is located about 25 minutes from the center of Iloilo a highly urbanized city which has a population of over 300,000 people.
The project was possible following the donation of 6.4 acres of land by the Archdiocese of Jaro in the town of Zarraga.
The SOS Children's Village Iloilo was officially opened in November 2004.
Luzette Villareal outside the 12 family homes.
The complex also has 4 classrooms, the community house and administrative buildings.
The village is home to over 100 orphaned and abandoned children from the surrounding area.
In addition there is a kindergarten that provides support and education to about 170 children from the neighborhood. The village provides evening courses for women and young girls from the local community.
Luzette was able to visit the almost completed village in October 2003.
For these children and the 90 others to whom this SOS Village is now their home, life seems a whole lot brighter.
However, the situation for the 1000's of abandoned and uncared-for children in other parts of the Philippines is still a major concern.
Should you decide to own a Villareal painting you will be doing so in the certain knowledge that in exchange for an original painting, you will be helping in a very big way to secure a brighter future for children at the SOS Village at Iloilo.
And it doesn't stop there, as the artist would also want you to join her in helping to feed the 1000's of children who are without regular food.
There are estimated to be almost 44,000 malnourished children in Western Visayas alone, and so far only enough money has been raised to feed 2,000 children.
The sale of just ONE small painting
The artist is aware that many people will be asking, how do I know 100% of the money from the sale of a painting goes to this project or any other ?
Here is a receipt from a recent payment to the SOS Village in Iloilo on May 23 2006, for 12,000 peso ($240 USD).
In setting up a payment system it was hoped that at the time of purchase, you would be able to see that payments were automatically paid to an SOS account in the Philippines.
Unfortunately this is not possible, since the chosen payment processor PayPal does not at this time, support payment transfers directly to the Philippines.
However as and when paintings are sold, money will be transferred to a project by normal bank transfers.
Copies of receipts and letters of thanks from the project organizers as sums are donated can be viewed on this site and at SOS Children's Village 2006 Report
Your support for the children who are alone in this world is greatly valued.
