Feed a Child Visit Report 2009Dear Friends and Donors, Please allow me to share with you the highlights of my visit to JASAC’s Feeding a Child Center in the province of Iloilo, the Philippines. May 13, 2009: It was a sunny afternoon when I had the opportunity to witness the feeding program. Together with JASAC’s social worker (Evelyn) and my brother-in-law (Regino) I arrived at Barangay (Village) Cuartero HI-Way. This is one of the villages where 9 under-nourished children were in their last phase of the 6-month feeding program. Unfortunately, in June 2008 the official feeding center got heavily damaged by typhoon “Frank” (international code: Fengshen), the most devastating typhoon to hit the province. You can read more of this unforgettable typhoon at: Typhoon Frank devastates Iloilo Hence, the feeding took place in front of the home of one of the volunteers. Two pots were on the table, one had rice and another one with vegetables mixed with very enriching vitamins. Seven children and two toddlers were eagerly waiting their early dinner- it was past four.
After their dinner, I asked Regino to let each child pick a soft toy that he/she likes, while I took some photos. These toys were donated by my Swiss friends. Seeing that special glow in each child’s eyes when he/she hugs or strokes her newly acquired toy made my day. As one saying goes "simple pleasures often trump the big ones."
I also had the chance to talk to Monsignor Meliton Oso who happened to be at his JASAC’s office that afternoon. With his new parochial assignment in Tubungan, finding time to come to the city to do some administrative tasks is now part of his weekly regime. He also started a feeding program in Tubungan. This is a 4th class municipality in the province of Iloilo which according to the 2007 census, has a population of 20,631 people.
Below are receipts for the PHP 25,000.00, plus $100 USD (total approximately USD 630.00), cash donations to JASAC (Jaro and Tubungan) feeding programs. On behalf of these special kids, thank you so much! Your generous donations have made a big difference to these children. God be with you.
